For securing your valuables, it’s a good combination
Each hotel room we’ve stayed in in China features a small electronic safe, usually in the main hall closet, on the floor - or in a built-in cabinet along the wall. These are the same kinds (and brands) of safes now commonly found in Western hotel rooms.
You’ll make extensive use of your safe due to the large amount of cash you must carry, plus your cameras, computers, iPods, medicines, and other valuables.
There is an instruction card in each safe, printed in Chinese characters as well as English. Operation is straightforward, and the English directions are fairly clear. Practice several times before locking up your goods, however. The space is not big (more like a small microwave), but should be adequate for your must-secure items except large cameras or bulky computers.
You get to choose the combination; typically four or five numbers, so make sure you pick one that every adult traveler in your family can easily recall.
