It pays to be a smart shopper

The guidebooks will go on and on about the fabric markets, the antique markets, tailored clothing, jewelry, toys, jade... but that’s for people with a lot of spare time to take a taxi across the city and spend hours walking through hundreds of storefronts.

Which is not to say you won’t have plenty of opportunities to part with your newly-converted money, and we will go into that in this section. But your new child will be calling the shots, so your expeditions will probably be within stroller range of the hotel, or on tours you take before ‘gotcha day’. Even so, there are still smart shopping strategies you’ll want to use.

We will also go over the basics of money in this area - how to get it, what it looks like, and what everyday expenses you should expect on your trip.
