A trip to Asia with the family is a wonderful opportunity to expand their dining horizons, and try items not usually found on a North American "ethnic restaurant" menu. But what's something that kids will actually eat? And what's special to a particular city or region, so you know you'll be ordering something truly authentic?

In this series, we will visit a number of cities in East Asia and highlight several key dishes from each that should be on your must-try list. They won't be too complicated, or too spendy - so if your child doesn't like it, no worries. But if they do like what they try, it will be a great memory and something to hunt for at your Asian market back home.

weninchina

Traditional guidebooks for China, Japan, and East Asia focus on luxury, adventure, and business travelers. As adoptive parents, we found these resources lacking for practical family travel advice.

In 2008 we started weninchina.com to help prepare families for their adoption trips to the People's Republic of China, and have since expanded our scope for general family travel not just to the mainland, but Japan and the rest of East Asia, as well as "Chinatowns" and Asian cultural resources across North America.
